Charities we support include the National Literacy Trust and the British Heart Foundation. In 2012 we funded 3,000 books to help children develop a love of reading and raised almost £115,000 across 36 retail centres for the BHF’s Bagathon Challenge.

We have won a number of community based awards including three ‘Big Ticks’ in the Business in the Community Awards for Excellence 2012.

British Land launched its Community Charter in July 2011, setting out ten commitments that support the company’s aim to be a good neighbour, listen to local people, respond to their needs and keep our promises. Our intention is to create an environment on the Canal Corridor North site in which local people and businesses can thrive.

We believe our record demonstrates that we deliver against these commitments.

This has included projects to ensure that local people access the jobs that are created through our developments and properties (during both construction and operation), that apprenticeship places are created, and that we engage with local schools and community organisations.

In fact, engaging with local people, community groups, local authorities and other key partners is very much ‘business as usual’ for British Land.
